Best Restaurant in Langkawi – Kayu Puti

Kayu Puti, the signature overwater restaurant at The St. Regis Langkawi was our favourite place during our stay at the hotel (full review of the hotel here). We spent quite a fair bit of time here, while we were waiting for our room to be ready after we arrived early at the hotel, as well as during the sunset hours and dinner. This is definitely the best restaurant in Langkawi that I’d been so far.

The bar

We order the Red Sangria Carafes (RM160), the most valued alcoholic drinks on their menu which could last a long time as we sat around enjoying the sea breeze and chit-chatting. I was touched when the waiters at Kayu Puti addressed my name correctly even I didn’t introduce myself when our room was ready. Furthermore, while we were on our way out from the restaurant, Kayu Puti’s staff actually paid attention to what we were saying between ourselves about sunset drinks and dinner plan, and made the reservations without us actually telling them to do so. That showed a great level of personalised and attentive service level at The St. Regis Langkawi.

Tidbits

Late in the afternoon, we returned to Kayu Puti for a sunset drink. The huge overwater hammocks are the main draw for this restaurant during sunset hours, as guests could lay back and enjoy the beautiful sunset. Since the restaurant was kind enough to reserve a hammock for us, we ordered another Sangria Carafes (RM160) but this time was the White Sangria. The chef also made us special french fries since it was not on their snack menu. This is how special we were made to feel!

Special order!

The sunset that evening was undoubtedly the best sunset I’d ever seen in a long while. The golden sky and beautiful clouds were like great work of arts. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves here!

Top Tips: The over-water hammocks at Kayu Puti are popular during. Do make a reservation beforehand to avoid disappointment.

Wonderful Dinner Experience

After the mesmerizing sunset, we were famished and ready for dinner. Kayu Puti’s dinner menu was quite extensive with some set menus to choose from. We settled for the Andaman Seafood Paella (RM300) meant for 2 people as we were too lazy to choose, even though we were told that the dish would take longer to prepare.

To our surprise, the restaurant offered us free appetizer and lobster bisque as they apologised for the waiting. We didn’t expect them to fill in the waiting time while we waited for our main course as we were told about the waiting time upfront, but it was definitely a nice gesture that elevated our dinner experience.

When our seafood paella arrived, it was filled with colourful seafood and vegetables over a bed of fragrant paella rice. We loved the dish so much but the portion was too generous that the 2 of us were struggling to finish it. The best part was we also got 40% discount on the food bill thanks to CIMB credit card. There are quite a few credit cards that offer good discounts at Starwood Hotels in Malaysia so do check in order not to miss out any good deals.

The Andaman Seafood Paella

Overall, it was a fantastic experience at Kayu Puti. The service was flawless and the food was great. We were pampered like princesses when we were there and I would definitely highly recommend Kayu Puti if you are ever in Langkawi. I’m sure you’ll then understand why I’d rate it as the best restaurant in Langkawi.

  1. Lobster bisque is so yummy. I would even pay for a good cup of bisque but to have it brought out for free is fantastic. I love the hammocks too, they look like they would be worth reserving.

I’ll have to ask Jenn if, over her career in high end customer service, she has ever made a reservation based on eavesdropping.

  2. Wow this looks gorgeous, and I would be all over that sangria! What a way to relax and just enjoy, thanks for putting this place on my radar!

  3. I love all the design details here. The light fixtures and white decor make this seem so upscale and inviting. You’d find me sitting with Jen drinking a sangria (or two). Looks fantastic!
