Things To Do In Kuala Lumpur

Welcome to my home city! The capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur (or better known as KL among locals), is famous for its mixed cultural experiences, due to the unique blend of racial harmony among Malay, Chinese and Indian. Moreover, Kuala Lumpur is one of the top cities in Southeast Asia to experience not only modern lifestyles but some also special historical and cultural activities. Home to the world’s tallest twin towers, Petronas Towers and some of the largest shopping malls in the world, Kuala Lumpur has great things to offer for every visitors. Here are some of best things to do in Kuala Lumpur:

  1. KLCC Petronas Towers

Once the tallest building in the world, Petronas Towers was completed in 1996 and still the World’s Tallest Twin Towers today. They are the most iconic buildings of Kuala Lumpur, hence a selfie/wefie with the Petronas Towers is a must and top things to do in Kuala Lumpur! You can also get up close with the twin towers by getting up to the Skybridge connecting the Twin Towers. It is open for visitors at 41st floor, as well as the Observation Deck at 86th floor.

  2. Batu Caves

The 272 steps to the cave temple at the top of the hill, Batu Caves is the most sacred site for Hindus in Kuala Lumpur. Home to the largest Lord Murugan statue in the world and covered with 300 litres of gold paint, Batu Caves offers a unique experience to the Hindu religion up close. During the annual Thaipusam festival in February, Batu Caves turns into a jam-packed place filled with Hindu pilgrims from all across the country to perform their religious rituals and rites. You’ll find some mind blowing rituals such as body piercing the skin, tongue or cheeks, as part of the offering to the gods.

  3. KL Tower

KL Tower is the 7th tallest freestanding tower in the world, the tallest tower in South East Asia and the highest viewpoint in Kuala Lumpur that opens to the public. KL Tower has a 360-degree observation deck and a revolving restaurant, as well as a Sky Box with glass floor extends out at 300 meters high. For those who love challenges, KL Tower hosts the annual KL Tower International Towerthon Challenge where the participants would need to run up the 800 meters hill until the lobby of KL Tower, and then climb the 2,058 steps up to Megaview Banquet Hall located at 288 metres above the ground level. Are you up for this?

  4. Jalan Alor

For the foodies, Kuala Lumpur is also well known as a food heaven. If you want to try some famous Malaysian street food such as satay, chicken rice, curry noodle, bbq chicken wings, oyster omelette and rojak, Jalan Alor is the best place to go! Daily from 5pm until late night, Jalan Alor is buzzing with continuous food stalls along the road, you will be so spoilt with choices! My top pick in Jalan Alor is Wong Ah Wah Restaurant, as their bbq chicken wings are just absolutely yummy and addictive at the same time.

  5. Shop Til You Drop

Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Suria KLCC, Mid Valley Megamall are just some of the best shopping malls in Kuala Lumpur offering everything from daily needs to luxury goods, cheap eats to fine dining, beauty and entertainment, all under one roof. You will need a week or more just to explore some of these famous shopping malls in Kuala Lumpur!

  1. I had never heard of Traveloka, but would definitely look at booking through the site when going to Indonesia — it makes a lot of sense to use a service that’s so widely recognized in a region.

  2. KLCC Petronas Towers and Batu Caves have been on my list for ages! But the thing that makes me want to KL the most is the food! You’ll see me at Jalan Alor all day 😛

  3. Looks like the games started yesterday – how cool! I think I’ve seen the Petronas Towers in movies before, but wasn’t sure where they were. I have to get to KL!! And, like Juliann, I’ll bookmark Traveloka for upcoming Asia trips 🙂

  4. This summer is gonna be busy in KL with the SEA Games happening! Besides the games, there’s so much to do in the city. I would love a trip there and explore both the city and nature!
