London 125 – Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon Afternoon Tea @ Fortnum & Mason

Fortnum & Mason has been selling tea since 1707, no wonder it also could claim that it has the widest selection of tea, all 82 of them available on their menu. So we made it a must to experience our 1st authentic English Afternoon Tea in London by booking a table at this famous tea salon. Table reservation was made easy with their online booking system and due to the popularity of this place, early reservation is highly recommended to avoid disappointment.
We made our Afternoon Tea experience a brunch instead, hence it was still quite empty when we got there by noon but the place was quickly filled up will patrons soon after. Since there was only the 2 of us, my sister and I decided to try the Standard Afternoon Tea selection that came with fingered sandwiches, scones and bit size patisserie (mainly sweet flavoured), and the Savoury Afternoon Tea selection that came with the same fingered sandwiches, savoury scones and other bite size savouries. For our choices of tea, I chose the conventional darjeeling tea while my sister pick the assam tea.

The 3-tier finger food that came with our Afternoon Tea Selection was quite good. I preferred the savoury selection as I’m generally not a sweet tooth person. Their bite size savouries were my favourite, followed by the scones with clotted cream. The fingered sandwiches were alright but pale in comparison to the other 2 tiers. The best part of all, everything is refillable and replenishable, you can have as much of tea and finger food as you want. There’s also a cake trolley with cart full of cake to choose from if you’re still not full after the 3-tier finger food at your table.
I had a good time feeling like a proper English lady enjoying my tea and finger food in a grand tea salon which was opened by HM The Queen in 2012, presented in the most elegant way possible. For £44.00 onwards per set per person, it was definitely a splurge but well worth it for the true English heritage experience~!

  1. I've so many times to London and never had a proper English tea. This one with the savory options looks great and I too would do it at brunch time. Thank you for sharing 🙂
