The Bar With The View –  Rock Bar Bali

Rock Bali is such an iconic place in Ayana Resort and Spa that it has long on the “To Do Things in Bali” list for every tourist. Recognised as one of the world’s top 30 best hotel bars, Rock Bar Bali sits 14 meters above the Indian Ocean offering breathtaking views, sundown cocktails, and Mediterranean dining.

Since we were staying at Ayana Resort and Spa for my birthday celebration, we did take the full advantage of priority access to the bar. There are privileges (priority line for the inclinator) and priority seats allocated to hotel guests at the bar area, which I didn’t get to enjoy in my previous visits.

We headed down to the bar before our sunset dinner at Kisik (next to the Rock Bar) for a quick drink. The bar was quite full just before sunset but we got seated quickly at the corner (but the best seats but we knew we would have better seats at Kisik later). I ordered a Rock Bar signature cocktail, Rock My World (IND190k++) which is a vodka based cocktail with lemon & pineapple juice, fresh orange and Kaffir leaves. The cocktail tasted bland to me and for the expensive price tag that I was paying, I wasn’t really impressed by it. Anyhow, Big Teddy was satisfied with just his Bintang beer.

The sunset views from the Rock Bar were possibly some of the that I’d ever seen. No wonder this bar is such an iconic place in Bali even after so many years. They have even expanded recently to cater up to 880 guests. After our dinner at Kisik Bar and Grill right next to the Rock Bar, we went back to here for another round (or two) of drink before we retired for the night.

The next day we returned to the Rock Bar again because we loved the ambience. This time I ordered another signature cocktail, Ginger Berry Tiny (IND190k++) which was much better than the one I had the day before.

Overall, the ambience (think sea, waves, big rocks and sunsets) is the best thing about Rock Bar Bali, except for the hot humid tropical weather which will melt your face. So girls please wear waterproof makeup and dress light. The service was good and attentive but for the price that they are charging for the drinks, you will probably get better value elsewhere. However, most people won’t mind paying for the sunset view and ambience especially on holiday, and this is still one of the top things to do in Bali. Therefore, you should come and experience it at least once. If you are looking for other inspirations, check out 110+ things to do in Bali too.

So tell me where’s the bar that has the best view you have ever been?

  1. Aw. “Rock My World” sounded like an awesome drink until I read your review of it. But I would have discovered that myself. I’m usually disappointed with mixed drinks. The view, though, looks spectacular. With a glass of my favorite (reliable) wine, it would be even better.

  2. It’s definitely one of those must-do bars — perfectly beautiful setting. When you get a chance to see the sunset in such a spot, it stays with you a long, long time.

  3. Happiest of birthdays!! I feel like you couldn’t pick a better place to celebrate. I would love to see these views for myself and will put this on my must see list for Bali. Thanks for sharing!!

  5. I can see why it is a popular place to grab drinks! The setting is perfect to watch sunsets over ocean. Ginger Berry Tiny sounds like my style of drink!

  6. Our friends just got married at the AYANA last month and I was suffering from a serious case of FOMO from their IG stories! Such a beautiful property. Cant wait to check it outwhen we go back to Bali in a few!

    1. You should check it out! This hotel is massive and beautiful… A lil too big to my taste but we had a great stay overall
